What is an API proxy?

1.Think of it as an interface/bridge to secure resources with minimal information.
2.In Web services development, especially SOAP services consisting of two components, i.e. Stubs and skeletons.
The stub is like an information (metadata) file that describes the operations exposed by the service, and the skeleton will have the actual implementations that will be executed on the server side based on client requests.
Each time the client uses the service, this stub file is downloaded at the client to make the necessary operations available. This stub file is nothing more than an API proxy whose sole purpose is to facilitate available operations.
Another example of an API proxy is to create a wrapper Web service to prevent direct access to the actual Web service.
